Education Strategy

Our approach to school improvement is grounded in the principle of aligned autonomy. This means that schools retain the autonomy to make decisions that reflect their context, identity and community, while working within a clear framework of shared Trust values, priorities and principles.

Led by the Central Education Team (CET), schools across Areté Learning Trust work collaboratively—both informally and through established working groups and networks—to shape and embed Trust-wide principles for excellence and to support sustained improvement.

We place strong emphasis on individual school responsibility, leadership and identity, while using the Trust to:

  • frame strategic priorities
  • develop and articulate shared best-practice principles (“how we do things here”)
  • share and scale effective practice
  • provide targeted support for school improvement
  • deliver high-quality central and operational services

This approach is designed to reduce unnecessary burden and ensure that Headteachers and school leaders are able to focus on what matters most: leading high-quality education and running exceptional schools.

To support effective and sustainable improvement, we use the EEF implementation cycle as our core model for change. This informs improvement work both horizontally across the Trust and vertically within individual schools, ensuring that initiatives are purposeful, evidence-informed and embedded over time.
